Public awareness programme:
Cancer Society Nepal has been conducting different public awareness programs in different times with local community within Kathmandu Metropolitan City and out of Kathmandu Valley. The local community has been showing keen interest about cancer education. More than fifty thousand people have been benefited from such programmes. Community based Cancer control activities at the local, district or national level, have a positive impact on the entire spectrum of prevention, early detection, effective treatment, survival, and quality of life related to fulfill its mission to save lives and diminish sufferings from cancer. Through community based programs, CSN aimed to reducing the risk of cancer, detecting cancer as early as possible and empowering people facing cancer to cope with the disease and maintain the highest possible quality of life.
Prevention:
Primary cancer prevention means taking the necessary precaution to prevent the occurrence of cancer in the first place. The Society’s prevention programs focus primarily on breast cancer, pap-smear test, and public awareness program about cancer, making people aware about early signs and symptoms of cancer, organizing cancer screening camp in remote area of Nepal, training school teachers etc, through the active participation of local community people in Nepal.
Since Breast and Cervical cancer are most prominent in women, and they come to the hospital at late stage for treatment, CSN has been working prior to its prevention through awareness campaigns and school based cancer education programme.
